Entry One.

Here are a couple of things I've learned in college and you 2 lovely young women need to remember for next year:
1. Friends are fun, but studying is important.
I've already made a few mistakes my first 2 weeks here at UAA. I will be studying and then I'll get a text that reads "Where are you?" There are 2 things you can do at this point.
a. Reply the text with your location.
b. Ignore the text.
I have done "A" many times and the result has hurt me numerous times. It's best to just ignore all texts and just focus on what's really important. Even a few minutes talking to friends in-between classes can interfere with reviewing notes or reading a chapter. You may think it's rude to ignore a text, but you cannot always put others before yourself. People have invested money in you, or maybe you are spending your own money on your education. Either way, you need to utilize your time wisely and always remember "work before pleasure." You will always have another chance to talk to friends, but you won't have another chance to get that study time back.

2. Just because you have time, doesn't mean you HAVE to do something during that time.
You may have friends who want you to go places with them off of campus, because your next class doesn't start for 2 or 3 more hours. But remember, time flies when you are having fun. The next thing you know, you're on the other side of town and your class starts in 5 minutes. And then you will be late for your class. You will interrupt those who have made wise decisions and stayed on campus and got to class early and the instructor who is trying to educate those wise individuals. When you're late in high school, you can just slip in discreetly, but college has larger classrooms, more students, and limited seats. You will be seen and heard when you walk through the door. And professors are always talking about students being late and the disrespect it shows.

3. You can be the most prepared student from 1st grade. But there will be a day, when you cannot even find a pen.
It's a really good idea to have millions of pens and pencils spread out in your bag, pockets, notebooks, etc. There's nothing worse than asking a person for a pen and feel like that one "unprepared" students who always nagged you for a pencil in 7th grade. They give you a look as if to say "You're in college now, and you can't even come to class with a pen?"

Those are the lessons of this week and the last! =]
Hope you learned something new to look out for in the future!!
