"Rai, she's not home!" Angel tried pulling Rai's sleeve to get her to leave as Rai pushed the bell for the 8th time. "No, she IS home Angel!" Rai pointed to a small 1970's yellow slug bug parked about twenty feet in front of Angels car. "Her car is right there, and you know she never goes anywhere without that thing!" Rai remembered the huge argument they had gotten into when Klemey wanted to take it to Venice. It's a car? She had said, Klemey looked at her in wild disbelief, JUST a car? Klemey bent over to kiss the hood of it, then whispered Philli (Really you named it? coming from Rai) don't listen to her she just jealous!
"Why are you so persistent to see her right now!" Angel looked at Rai like she had just turned on her stalker mode. "Because Angel! Don't you think it's just a little weird that we haven't heard from her since Venice?" Rai tried to remember anything...Just something from her and Klemeys last conversation. She sighed, giving up the bell. "I just have this feeling like she needs us...." Rai turned to look at Angel, worried. "Here, we'll call her." Angel pulled out her phone and speed dialed Klemey. They both jumped when they heard the ringing tone of Klemeys phone blare from the yard. "What?" Angel looked at Rai like What the hell is her phone in the yard for? They walked through the yard listening, then Rai looked at the trash pile. She kicked over a crumpled paper and there was the light from the phone. Incoming Call it read, Rai bent and picked it up. "Angel over here!" She held it up to show Angel who was under the only tree in Klemeys yard. "What is it doing outside?" Angel asked as she shut her own phone. Rai looked at Klemeys front door. "Come on!" She had determination in her now. She walked up to the door, skipped the bell this time and went right to turning the handle. To her surprise it turned with ease. She let it slowly swing open revealing a dark entryway. Angel looked worried and scared from the yard. Rai just waved her over and stepped inside. "Klemey?" Rai called out into the emptiness, no answer. They went to the living room and turned the light on. Everything seemed normal, all in its place. Then they went to the kitchen, that was a different story. The chairs from the table had been flipped onto their backs, one broken into two. Dishes and utensils lay amuck on the floor. And the trash can had clearly been thrown into the sink. "Wha-a..."Angel had her hand to her mouth. Then they saw the window was broken smashed in as if broken into. She ran upstairs to Klemeys room, with Angel right behind her. Rai was shaking with fear as she slowly opened the closed door. No one was in there, but Klemeys luggage from Venice was still on her bed, unpacked. "Rai!" Angel pointed to Klemey's little desk off to the right of her bed. Papers were scattered all over it and the drawers had been pulled out as if someone had been desperately trying to find something. Angel walked up to look at the desk tears coming to her eyes, What has happened? Her mind was spinning. Klemey, she silently thought her name. Rai walked into the bathroom that was joined to Klemey's room. Angel stood there, she shuffled through the papers. They were just junk, old taxes, a receipt, some crumpled rough drafts of stories Angel knew Klemey was never gonna finish. Angel peered a little closer at the wall behind the desk, she noticed a line in the wall. What is this? She thought. A hidden spot in Klemeys wall? Could this have been what whoever was looking for? Angel made her hand into a fist and pounded the wall where the line was. It immediately popped out. She pulled a little square of the wall out and found a folder. "Rai," Angel called. She took the file and sat on the edge of the bed. She slowly opened the folder, it was full of what looked like notes. Not notes on a lecture, not notes about how to fix a broken band in your vacuum, but note notes. The kind her, Rai, and Klemey use to past to each other in high school. Angel picked one up and read it. Switzerland, I can't believe you did that today! I mean breaking up with her! And just for me! And YES of course I will go to Jamaica with you, you know you didn't even have to ask! Then there was a little smudged kiss print at the bottom. Angel knew from the writing it wasn't Klemey's. Cell phone in the yard? A trashed kitchen? A desk rumbled through? A secret hole in the wall? Notes? Switzerland? Kiss Smudge? What is going on? Angel set the folder aside. "Rai, I think we should call the cops!" She walked to the bathroom from which Rai hadn't returned.
"Angel..." Rai's voice came from the bathroom, grave. "That is not going to happen anytime soon." The look on Rai's face when Angel entered the bathroom was indescribable.
